As the only national LGBTQ+ AAPI organization, NQAPIA is launching a $100,000 grassroots campaign

to sustain our staff, our programs, and our community during our most urgent moment in 20+ years.

Where We Are

Over the past year, NQAPIA has faced a convergence of crises that few in the nonprofit sector have seen at this scale. We lost two major funders without warning. Grant opportunities across the field have shrunk. And LGBTQ+ funding, already scarce, is being restricted further, just as our communities need it most. To stay afloat, we made one of the hardest decisions in our organization's 20+ year history: we reduced our staff by half and cut hours for those who remain.

We share this with you plainly because we believe our community deserves the truth. NQAPIA's survival is not guaranteed. But we are not giving up, and we are asking you not to give up on us either.

What We're Asking

We need to raise $100,000 by September 30th to help push out of our this difficult moment. Your gift today, whether it's $10 or $10,000, goes directly toward keeping our doors open, our staff paid, and our network intact. Every dollar sustains our organization another day so we can continue to offer necessary support our network needs to meet this political moment.

We are asking you to help us bridge this moment so that the infrastructure we've spent over 20 years building does not disappear.

Why This Work Cannot Wait

For the past two years, even as we navigated instability, NQAPIA made a deliberate choice: to invest in the infrastructure of our movement and build relationships. That investment is already bearing fruit. Together, we have:

  • Engaged nearly 1,500 community members across the country

  • Trained 435 individuals

  • Facilitated 3 regional convenings

  • Hosted 9 community receptions

  • Delivered 33 workshops and 12 training sessions to build local and national capacity

  • Welcomed 27 new network members into our movement

  • Redistributed over $18,400 through mini-grants directly to grassroots groups

  • Redistributed over $10,700 through individual scholarships

  • Redistributed over $20,250 in sponsorships to partner organizations and formations

Ways To Take Action

Meet the Team

  • NQAPIA has weathered difficult chapters before, and every time, it has been our community, not any single funder, that has carried us forward. We believe that will be true again. But we need you now, urgently, and honestly.

    — Kat Evasco, Executive Director NQAPIA

  • “This was probably the most intimate and comfortable conference/convening I've been to. NQAPIA staff and volunteers brought such good energy and hospitality. Even though I'm a Chicago resident, I felt like I was the one being welcomed and so appreciated that.”

    — MidWest Convening Participant

  • “Our communities have all the answers and brilliance to solve problems—we just need to come together. We as queer and trans people can take care of each other and imagine a new radical future for ourselves.”

    — West Coast Convening Participant

  • “The Good Trouble Mini-Grant is a necessary project for breathing life into local community initiatives and fostering movement-building from the ground up, especially during a time when API, SWANA, BIPOC, and queer communities are all faced with suppression and a lack of resources to support resilience in the efforts to resist.”
