2013 Hawai’i Summit

The National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) is organizing a weekend long training and issue briefing for leaders of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Asian American, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) organizations. Local leaders from around the country will convene to network, learn about current issues, share strategies, and build the infrastructure of their organizations. NQAPIA will also host special convenings for Pacific Islander LGBT leaders and LGBT students from the University of Hawaiʻi system.

The Summit’s highlight will be our annual Community Catalyst Awards.  This event will be a fundraiser to support NQAPIA’s work nationally, and will also benefit local LGBT communities through a partnership with the Hawai`i People’s Fund. We are proud to honor two “Community Catalysts” for their support of AAPI and LGBT communities:

  • UNITE HERE Local 5
  • Esera Tuaolo, former NFL football player and LGBT advocate
