Southern Regional Convening
In March 2025, NQAPIA gathered over 70 LGBTQ+ AANHPI leaders, artists, and organizers in Dallas, Texas for our first-ever Southern Regional Convening—a powerful four-day event designed to uplift the work, wisdom, and vision of queer and trans AANHPI communities living and organizing in the U.S. South.
Hosted in the heart of Oak Cliff, the convening created space for reflection, strategy, and celebration across Southern states often overlooked in national conversations. It was a declaration: we are here, we have always been here, and we are building something beautiful.

Community Leadership Mixer
The convening opened with a community mixer hosted in partnership with the Dallas Asian American Historical Society. Held in their space, the evening brought together participants for light bites, drinks, and conversation, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the week.
Convening Full Program Day 1
The first full day of the convening began with opening remarks that grounded participants in the goals and vision for the gathering. Workshops and presentations throughout the day highlighted the power of Southern AANHPI LGBTQ+ leadership, with sessions on movement strategy, community organizing, and storytelling. Attendees engaged in dialogue, built new networks, and set the foundation for the rest of the convening.

Community Reception
The convening included a community reception hosted at The Rose Room, who generously opened their space for free. The evening featured a stunning drag performance by Mulan Alexander, alongside food, conversation, and celebration. The event brought together local partners, leaders, and supporters to honor the resilience and leadership of Southern LGBTQ+ AANHPI communities while creating space for joy and connection.
Convening Full Program Day 2
The second day of full programming continued with a full slate of workshops and panels that deepened conversations around advocacy, leadership, and community care. Participants shared lessons from their local contexts and built collective strategies to confront challenges facing LGBTQ+ AANHPIs in the South. The day also offered intentional community spaces for reflection, rest, and joy, strengthening bonds across the region.
